The Annual 5K Run/Walk is a very important fundraising event for Joshua's Wish, in fact, it is one of three of their main events of the year. Beginning in 2019, I have designed all of their flyers for the event for different platforms ranging from digital to billboard (outdoor advertising).
I also have created a plethora of awareness t-shirts for volunteers and supporters to wear at a wide range of Joshua's Wish events including their annual races. In addition, I created a retracted banner design that can used be at many of their events to establish their presence.
Although there was no specific design motif for the event, I wanted each flyer to have an active but childlike aesthetic that would appeal to their audience consisting of mostly families, children, and those up in age. When possible, I included children who have survived or passed away due to childhood cancer. Doing so helped to keep these warriors in the minds of Joshua's Wish supporters and those fighting for a cure. Gold is a common hue I used since it is represent childhood cancer awareness. I also wanted to keep the image of Joshua included in each flyer since he is synonymous with Joshua's Wish and familiar with all supporters. With each year, I like to explore the different ways I can visually communicate these ideas to keep the event fun and exciting.
For their 13th Annual Birthday Bash for a Cure, Co-founder Labrina did not want a theme for the event but wanted marketing material that was professional and fit the classy attire theme that attendees were accustomed to. Therefore, I wanted to give their social media presence a fun and celebratory aura that would entice others to join the fundraiser event to raise funds for a childhood cancer cure. Gold was used as it symbolizes the color for childhood cancer awareness. White was also used as a neutral color so that it wouldn't overpower the gold aesthetic. Blue was Joshua's favorite color and I thought it would be a great addition to the design. Whenever designing for this nonprofit, I always make sure to put emphasis on the fundraising element so that attendees come prepared to donate any amount they can for their cause. This social media content was used to decorate their social media platforms and disseminate important information regarding the event. Some of this material was used in the actual event and was a hit with the audience, with the founders raving about the compliments they received about it.
Some flyers have served as the design for race t-shirts and other paraphernalia. The flyers have been met with positive reviews from many of their supporters.
